Abstract

In this paper, I try to show which points, starting in particular from Fabbri’s seminal 1973 article, “Le comunicazioni di massa in Italia: sguardo semiotico e malocchio della sociologiaµ (Mass communications in Italy: a semiotic view and the evil eye of sociology), are not only still interesting and valid today, for the debate and for a possible discussion between semiotics and sociology, but above all, how they allow us to propose new paths and openings. Roads that even at that time, although in a critical and apparently polemical way, Fabbri anticipated in a far-sighted way. The hypothesis is that behind the antagonistic spirit we can find a real programmatic manifesto for a federation of human and social sciences, in short, for a new sociosemiotics.
