Scientific evidence has become in the last decades a very important topic in any kind of judicial process, for two main reasons: the growth of scientific investigations in many domains and the expanding reference to meta-legal knowledge in judicial decisions. Correspondingly, several problems arise, such as that of the control about the professional qualification of experts and about the scientific validity of the information they provide. Then the traditional function of the judge as "peritus peritorum" becomes more and more important and difficult to perform.
