  • In his mansion on Velia
  • Eurialo Silvestri collected a great number of antique sculptures that were noticed
  • between the end of 1549 and the first months of 1550
  • by Ulisse Aldrovandi
  • author of the single description of the collection that
  • due to political and personal events of Silvestri
  • remained unknown. The sculptures had mainly been found during the excavation work for the palace but they came also from the purchase and barter with other collectors with whom Silvestri was in contact thanks to his high status inside the Farnese family. The heirs
  • his sons Orazio and Alessandro
  • sold the palace in 1577 to Alessandro de' Medici
  • the archbishop of Florence
  • but they maintained the ownership of all the antiques they would probably have sold later
