Abstract

In the last years a big interest was developed on working memory functioning in subjects with a diagnosis of Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder. The present paper examines the researches published since 1995 that examine both maintenance and processing, and analyses them with a meta-analysis in order to observe the presence and the magnitude of the relationship between ADHD and the impairment observed in working memory tasks. A total sample of 1606 children and adolescent with a clinical diagnosis of ADHD was considered. Results show a difference in experimental group performance regarding control people, confirming the presence of an association of Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder with working memory impairments, however the effect size was in the medium range (d = 0.54, for the correct answer; d = -0.62 for the errors).
