Abstract

Dialogic reading is a reading modality that promotes linguistic, cognitive and social- affective development in preschool children (Whitehurst, 1988). In the present paper, a parent training for 40 parents of preschool children is presented. The Parent training consisted of four meetings plus an initial and a final meeting in which questionnaires were administered about parental beliefs and reading activities at home. The Leggiamo Insieme Training had direct effects on parental beliefs about the importance of Home Literacy Environment and shared reading practices. Implications, limitations and possible future developments are discussed.
