Abstract
Starting from the recent edition of the poem in Latin hexameters "Iesus puer" by Tommaso Ceva (first edition 1690) edited by Felice Milani (Guanda, 2009), the article offers a recognition of the Lombard and Italian literary picture on the eve of the Arcadia Academy institution and the eighteenth-century birth of the "res publica litterarum".
