Abstract

What if the solution to all the world's energy problems was something we have always had in front of our eyes, in the Sun? This is what the scientists of ITER - the international project for nuclear fusion - are trying to find out. The experiment aims at demonstrating the viability of fusion power which is the energy source of the Sun and the stars. However the outcome is uncertain, the costs are high and the implementation schedule very long. We talked to Mr. Osamu Motojima, Director-General of the ITER organization, about the ongoing project.
