Abstract

After providing a general overview of legally protectable databases and the distinction between databases protected by copyright or "sui generis" right, the article focuses on the analysis of online databases that collect data on the works in the museum collections. After examining a few examples of museum databases, the article focuses on the protectability of both the data as a whole and the individual data of which the databases are composed. Finally, a brief mention is made of the articles of Directive (EU) 2019/790 on the conservation of cultural heritage and text and data mining".
