Abstract

When information external to the text (testimonials, authoritative opinions) remains in contrast with internal data (language, style), what should we give more credit to? This note answers to a theoretical question about the method and validity of philological analysis. It takes its cue from a paper containing two drafts of Leopardi’s L’infinito, which are, until now, unanimously considered to be forgeries
