Abstract

This is the first edition of 90 inscriptions collected in the warehouse owned by the Sovrintendenza Capitolina and located near the Scipio’s Tomb on the first mile of the via Appia. These group of unpublished inscriptions belongs to a wider collection consisting of hundreds of archaeological and epigraphic findings, which had been collected by the Municipality of Rome in different times and under multiple circumstances. Their provenance is often hard to define, however, almost all the identified contexts are located along the first two miles of the via Appia and the via Latina. The study of these inscriptions might help in increasing our knowledge of the Roman funerary landscape.
