Studying "Going Concerns": Everett Hughes On Method
Abstract
Everett Hughes is well known as having been a skilled and passionate advocate, teacher and practitioner of ethnography, especially what he referred to as "fieldwork." This paper outlines Hughes's "methodological orientation" in terms of eleven propositions that describe in detail his conception of fieldwork, bearing in mind: a) the mutually constitutive relationship in Hughes's work between theory and method; and b) Hughes's conception of research ethics.
