Abstract

The approval of Next Generation EU (NGEU) represented a defining moment for the European Union in the last decade. The magnitude and consequences of this programme have created great interest among EU scholars, producing a growing literature on the topic. The aim of this work is to summarise the main lines of research on NGEU, analysing the theoretical and methodological foundations of the most relevant research produced within political science. Additionally, it aims to provide a general evaluation of the assessment of the literature regarding whether NGEU constitutes a «paradigm shift» for the course of the EU integration process and shed light on the less explored dimensions of the programme
