Abstract

These are the interactions between memory, spatiality and symbolic representations that configure the most fruitful research paths of an effective cultural history of the «politics». When in 1993 the review «Memoria e Ricerca» launches its publications, the volumes of the Lieux de Mémoires (1984-1992) edited by Pierre Nora, who would also have had an Italian application with the Luoghi della Memoria (1996-1997) edited by Mario Isnenghi, are discussed in a passionate way. Recent autobiographical volumes of Nora and Isnenghi, both «public historians» very present in historical communication, lead to even better the countless cultural and scientific suggestions – between France and Italy, in the decades of the late twentieth century and early 2000s – which emerge from a critical conjugation of «places of memory» in different national contexts and the value of methodological transfer they assumed, in the short circuit between intellectual ego-histoire and paths of a more likely and not disguised cultural history of «politics»
