Abstract

The privatization of the telephone monopoly of ENTel, carried out in 1990 in Argentina, was a nightmare, mainly due to the many mistakes of the early Menem Government. This paper recalls the main story of the ENTel privatization, and highlights its main implications for ENEL privatization in Italy. Where rush can bring to undesirable outcomes related to timid industry re-oganization and pervasive regulation of the vertically integrated electrical monopoly.
