Abstract

The aim of the present paper was to investigate different kinds of spatial compatibility effects, i.e. the spatial Stimulus-Goal compatibility and the spatial Goal-Response compatibility, by creating an immersive world with the virtual reality technolo gy. The results show that non-immersive incompatible training slowed RTs in a virtual task in which subjects had to drive a car, that the spatial Stimulus-Goal compatibility effect is present only in the virtual spatial Simon task, and that the spatial Goal-Response compatibility effect is present in either the virtual spatial compatibility task or the virtual Simon task.
