Abstract

This article provides an interpretation of the populist reading of Machiavelli proposed by John P. McCormick and, in parallel, interrogates Machiavelli in the light of the modern category of populism. The aim is to distinguish a historical approach to populism, which identifies some essential keys in Machiavelli, from the populist exegesis of Machiavelli that refers mainly to the North American academic context. The article invites the reader to identify possible points of contact between the two phenomena
