Abstract

In the last two years the Italian Government have approved the main decrees of Third Sector Law Reform, even though several secondary acts have not yet promulgated. The main objective of the paper is to assess the possible effects of the Reform on the Third Sector from the point of view of official statistics. Firstly, the authors draw the attention on the statistical definition of Nonprofit Institution within the frame of National Accounts by comparing it with the definition of Third Sector organization established by the new law reform. The second part of the article investigates to what extent and which types of Nonprofit Institutions will be possibly included in the National Third Sector Register provided for by the Reform. The preliminary empirical findings show that the nonprofit organizations linked to public institutions are more likely to join the National Third Sector Register.
