Abstract

The aim of this contribution is to highlight the most important topics of Italian historiography on the Habsburg monarchy in twentieth and twenty-fi rst century, focusing on early modern studies. The core of this analysis is the decline of historiographical concepts such as «Mitteleuropa» and «Josephinism» and the rising of new discussions on the history of empires as transnational phenomenon and on the Habsburg history as dynastic institution.
