Abstract

Since early 2000 "safety", especially "urban safety" issues, have been occupying an important place in the Italian Public debate. Critical criminology, through various shades, has pointed security policies as a specific strategy of social control oriented to crystallize citizen's fears on particular phenomena as immigration and crime. The description of these series of researches aim to explore the complexity and ambivalence that characterize the insecurity feeling of Italians and seek to deconstruct several commonplaces that animate security policies.
