Abstract

Gender studies and, specifically, Women’s studies have made remarkable contributions to the law, both at the international level and in domestic jurisdictions. Women’s studies started as an academic enterprise of the feminist movement that aimed at challenging the male norm in the domain of the production of knowledge. Compared to the legal reforms promoted and fought by women’s and feminist movements, the contribution of Women’s Studies to the law might be less noticeable. The text shows, however, different types of effect that these contributions have had on the law, regardless whether we understand the law as a legal order, a set of social practices by legal practitioners, or the production and transmission of legal knowledge.
