Abstract

Starting from an acknowledgment of the fact that there is indeed such a thing as medieval philosophy, this article indicates three reasons for studying it: because it makes up a quantitatively large portion of the history of philosophy; because it is qualitatively valuable; because it has been historically influential. The article continues by providing some methodological suggestions on how to study medieval philosophical texts.
