Abstract

The aim of this paper is to contribute to a little researched area through an empirical investigation of Ferzan Özpetek's "Rosso Istanbul" ("Istanbul Kırmızısı", 2017). Focus group interviews were conducted in the Austrian capital Vienna, which sought to tease out the transnational qualities of the film and its reception, thus contributing to theoretical debates around transnational Italian cinema. The study reveals that the film is mainly perceived as a French film rather than Italian or Turkish, that perceived transnational transfers are in line with the suggestions of the literature in this area, and that "Rosso Istanbul" contributes to a positive understanding of the term «transnational».
