Abstract

In the contemporary landscape, cinema theaters display, together with new released movies, a variety of live and recorded entertainment including opera, ballet, concerts, and sport events. This essay examines «alternative content» devoted to art history, investigating their features and how they relate to the experience of visiting a museum. In particular, it focuses on four documentaries produced by Sky that were released between 2014 and 2017: "The Vatican Museums 3D"; "Florence and the Uffizi Gallery 3D/4K"; "St. Peter's and the Papal Basilicas of Rome 3D"; "Raphael, Prince of the Arts in 3D".
