Abstract

This survey offers an overview of the main studies carried out in the second half of the 20 th century on Johann Adam Möhler and the Catholic School of Tübingen. It also endeavours to reconstruct the main trends in the theological debate on Möhler, taking into account the evolution of the different interpretations offered by scholars on the role that this theologian and his generation played in the Romantic period of German theology. Finally, the reception of Möhler’s theology in Catholic ecclesiology in the twentieth century is examined, with particular regard to the changes that occurred after Vatican II.
