Abstract

The main aim of this study is to identify the distinguishing features of the anti-Jewish propaganda conveyed by the "Corriere Padano" in 1938. By means of archives data, and with reference to Bar-Tal's studies on delegitimization (2000), Glick and Fiske's taxonomy of prejudice (2001) and a number of contributions in a historical context, the present work is designed to point out both the delegitimizing beliefs about Jews and the kind of prejudice and anti-Semitism which may be detected in them. Content analysis of the 172 articles selected, besides confirming the validity of the beliefs identified by Bar-Tal, has highlighted further beliefs of a dynamic nature. The main results show a marked resort to beliefs which increase the distance from the outgroup, the predominance of envious prejudice and political and national Anti-Semitism.
