Abstract

Open data coming from Volunteered Geographic Information (VGI) have been growingly valuable, especially in domains where official statistics are difficult to produce. However, VGI must guarantee quality standards to complement official sources. Few studies have analysed the contextual features that are associated with the mapping of OSM points-of-interest (POIs). So, in this work the OSM data are compared with those deriving from the official ISTAT survey on Italian museums, highlighting the diverse regional patterns. The results are influenced by socio-economic, cultural and touristic characteristics of places. A better knowledge of those factors is fundamental for regional cultural policies.
