Abstract

This article focuses on the extension of the notion of «Model Reader» for the study of devices produced by the digital and cultural industry. Seeking to understand what happens when mobile applications are used by their receiver, anticipated by model user profiles, the pragmatic approach is necessary. Mobilizing both reading and writing, the handling gestures of these devices change conventional approaches to these activities; they renew our aesthetic experiences but also weave them with problematic economic issues. They finally put the human to the margin of the process of meaning and configure all the user’s actions. Allowing to question the lived reality of popular objects, it is the design models that Eco’s theory allows to question.
