Abstract

Many interpreters have considered the contemporary process of aestheticization of the world as an impoverishment both of art, reduced to an instrument of the market, and of the subjects, locked up in their narcissistic edonism. This happens because, in these interpretations, feeling imposes itself to the detriment of the cognitive and ethical plans. Rancière overturns these arguments by stating that «aesthetics» is the name of a historical configuration marked by an increase in experience, not by its emptying. He shows that thought and the sensible form an entanglement that is impossible to dissolve. The aesthetic experience is always crossed by an ethical and rational plot. In this perspective, the process of aestheticization is characterized by the increasing ability of the subjects to take back the imaginary and even to produce them.
