Abstract
The law n. 53/2000 changed in Italy the way of conceiving the work-life balance issue. It introduced, in fact, parental leave also for fathers and officialised the right and the duty of care of men. The aim of the paper is to make a review, from a sociological perspective, of the state of art about opportunities and constraints which affect the use of parental leaves by fathers in Italy, in comparison with European fathers, and the effects of the law on the practices of fathering.
