Abstract

This paper analyzes the image of the scientist as it emerges in the media in the Stamina and Capua cases, considering also the reception and the reworking made by the audience. It will be shown how D. Vannoni and I. Capua have been included in narratives that have proposed the same stereotyped figures already used and encoded by the media and by science itself. I'll finally argue that these stereotypes are personifications of - otherwise inexpressible - expectations, fears and concerns regarding the community of scientists and the scientific practice.
