Abstract

On 5 May 2015, the French national daily «Libération» published an opinion piece entitled «We women political journalists and victims of sexism…», in which 40 female political journalists were protesting against the impunity of political staff, arguing that their sexist behaviours towards them constituted a daily gendered constraint in the exercise of their profession. This article shows how the field of political journalism is especially conducive to the expression of gender-based violence. It also explains how a combination of micro-, meso- and macro-sociological factors are driving the process of public exposure of gender-based violence among female political journalists
