Abstract

The Municipality of Turin, together with the other local authorities such as the Metropolitan city and the other local institutions, is promoting a process of creation of its "urban food policy". This process has been urged by the realities of the territory (institutions and civil society both) which are committed to a more sustainable food production, distribution and consumption and by the comparison with the other world cities partners with which Turin was in the process of formation of the "Milan urban food policy pact" (MUFPP). In order to build the "Turin food policy", four "Food local public services" have been identified: soup kitchens, school canteens, social gardens, farmer's areas in the open air markets. They are related to four different local policies (Local welfare, Education, Environment and urban agriculture, Local trade and markets).
