Abstract

The author illustrates how work paid with "vouchers", originally aimed at encouraging the creation of new jobs in the services sector (in particular, healthcare and assistance), has become a cost-effective recruitment mean. This peculiar contract favours goods and services industries with low-added value, reinforces the marginalization of low-skilled workers in non-commercial sectors and, despite some common features, is of no use in the context of on-demand economy.
