Abstract

Telework is an expanding working pattern made feasible by the reducing costs and increasing performance of computers and telecommunications. Telework is an attractive option for employers, but it can also have advantages for employees: a more flexible working life enables people to combine work with other responsibilities which they could not carry out at the traditional workplace. However, bargaining and legislative coverage of telework is, specially in Italy, just at an initial stage. Perhaps, there is evidence that some trade unions start showing sophistication and creativity in their response to telework. In this paper, the Author examines contracts and codes on teleworking developed in Australia, UK, Canada, France and Italy. The objective of this analysis is that of trying to identify common issues and solutions that could generate a "Code of practices" on telework to be successfully adopted in Italy.
