Abstract

The article discusses why many religious legal systems accord different rights to men and women, with the latter frequently placed in a position of inferiority. It considers the motives that explain this disparity and aims at identifying some strategies that can help reducing or eliminating it. The analysis is focused on the legal systems of Judaism, Christianity and Islam.
