Abstract

This essay examines the relations between Italian populisms and religion. In the first place, after a reconstruction of the concept of «populism», it surveys the main Italian populisms, which mainly include Forza Italia, Lega Nord and Movimento 5 stelle. In the second place, it examines these parties' "religious strategy", in order to understand whether religion occupies a role in their political action and in their communication activity, and whether Italian populisms may be regarded as the expression of a cultural blacklash.
