Abstract

The Italian experience with restructuring and regulation of network sector is reviewed. Privatisation is still partial, and unlikely to be completed, and the State retains the control of most companies operating in these sectors. These companies are also expanding their presence abroad. The performance of these sectors from the consumers' viewpoint has been positive especially where regulation is managed by an independent authority. Unfortunately, there is a continuing attempt of politicians to expand their control over regulatory processes.
