Abstract

This study investigates the impact exerted on the main economic aggregates (production, value added and employment) by a sample of utilities localised in the South of Italy. The empirical results retrieved by the I-O model are further enriched by a descriptive analysis carried out on a set of selected balance sheet indicators. The study is particularly worthy of notice given the exceptional expansion experimented by this division during the economic and financial crisis 2009-2014. Among other findings, the analysis detects that increasing investments flows in the utilities sector would generate increasing positive impacts, mainly due to the serious shortage these companies show in their initial endowment.
