Abstract

For some time a debate has been promoted both in scientific journals and in the press about the quality of the Italian University system. On the one hand, some authors claim that in Italy we do too little research, leading to a waste of public money. On the other hand, others claim that Italy is basically similar to other comparable countries. This paper aims at presenting some indicators which will help the readers to better understand the effectiveness - for each euro spent - of the Italian university system in the international scenario, using the OECD (Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development) and WOS (Web of Science) data sets.
