Abstract

The development of IoT technologies is inducing transformation that will lead to epochal changes in every area: from home automation to healthcare, from transport to smart cities. Nevertheless, the adoption of new technologies implies new problems to solve. The automation level must be compatible with our cognitive attitudes, our expectations and goals. In this paper, we address the IoT issue from the user’s point of view, investigating the reasons compromising the acceptance of such systems and suggesting solutions for these problems. The first contribution of this work is the characterization in levels of the autonomy of IoT devices. As a second contribution, we introduce a new theoretical model for IoT systems-users interaction, also stimulating the acceptance of IoT systems’ functionalities. In addition, we verify the effectiveness of the introduced model by simulation, showing that it leads the system to an optimal solution.
