Abstract

Concept representation is a crucial research topic both in Artificial Intelligence and Cognitive Science. In recent years it received a great attention within knowledge engineering because of its relevance for ontology based technologies. However, despite this renewed attention, many classical problems (e.g., the representation of prototypical information and non monotonic reasoning) still remain unsolved. In this paper we propose an analysis of this state of affairs and sketch a proposal which takes into account suggestions coming from the psychological research.
