Abstract

At the core of the birth of cognitive science, and also of naive psychology, is the insight that the mind cannot extend outside the brain, as it is the brain that gives rise to the mind. The contemporary idea that mental processes are no longer simply characterized at an abstract, purely information-processing level blurs gradually also the intuition of a boundary between the «inside» and «outside» of the mind/brain. The authors analyze the different implications of this intuition largely dependent from the use of technological devices endowed with some properties of natural minds such as memory and reasoning.
