Abstract

Recently many studies have demonstrated that striking changes in a scene can remain unnoticed if they occur along with a brief visual disruption. This phenomenon, known as Change Blindness, provides robust indication that attention is the key factor for change detection. With regard the figure-ground perceptual organization processes, the present study showed that the degree of change blindness is more pronounced for background rather than for the figures, thus suggesting that attention is "by default" biased toward foreground information.
