Abstract

In order to reconsider the topic of assessment in psychology, as well as its related training, it is necessary to consider the plurality of tools and techniques it involves and the numerous domains of application in which the assessment is carried out. On the academic level, while psychometrics needs a specific disciplinary sector, the evaluation methods typical of the different areas of psychology should be developed within each of them, also for the purpose of training (with reference to Law 163/21 on degrees qualifying for the profession). Additionally, the topic of specificity, i.e. the exclusive attribution to the psychologist’s competence with certain assessment tools, should be taken into account. A close examination of these issues is essential not only for psychologists’ training but also for establishing a constructive dialogue with the professional Order and the Associations of other disciplines
