Abstract

Toward the mid ’60s of last century Italian universities had to meet an increased demand for psychological expertise. Two possible courses of action were taken into consideration. One was to grant degrees in psychology, which did not yet exist, the other was to provide people with other degrees (teachers and physicians, in particular) with an expertise in psychology. After a heated debate, the former solution was adopted. This choice also affected the association of Italian academic psychologists: SIPS was replaced by AIP
