Abstract

Based on the modes of representation of reality identified by Jerome Bruner, Elio Damiano's mediated theory of teaching is here applied with Maurizio Della Casa's theory of listening in a project of mediated listening. This starts with less conscious "external" activities and then moves towards more consciously-performed "internal" activities. The procedures adopted also include processes of "comparison", which is always a fruitful instrument of teaching. The abstract outlines a course of mediated listening for the last years of primary school involving the twentieth-century composition for solo violin "Riconoscenza per Goffredo Petrassi" by Elliott Carter. Along with an outline of the general, intermediate and behavioural objectives, there is an outline of the eighteen "teaching phases" that give concrete expression in the classroom to the theoretical-methodological considerations discussed.
