Abstract
The essay takes into account diverse theoretical and historical issues deriving from a stylistic approach to metrics. On the one hand, it deals with metrical theory and metrical description in an attempt to connect this method to its philosophical basis. On the other hand, such questions also address the historical problem of the passage from traditional structures to free verse.
