Abstract

While deliberately enhancing a presumed superiority of the audience com¬pared to the character on stage, all the development of "La Fondazione" consists in gradually making those in the audience aware of the fact they are not so far from the character on stage. If you can easily distance yourself from his manias and eccentric ways, you cannot help but identify with the devotion to life and the world that emerges from his torrent of words. And what apparently is an obsession - the aspiration to the collector's unbridled possession - finally turns into a metaphor for devotion to life.
