Abstract

This contribution analyses the first vernacular translation of Dante's "Monarchia", written by an anonymous author towards the middle of the 15th century. The paper examines the translation techniques used by the author and the textual relationship with the more famous version by Marsilio Ficino (1468). Thereafter certain passages in the translation are highlighted, in which the author demonstrates relevant philosophical knowledge. The paper also claims that a second anonymous author worked on some sections of the translation.
