Abstract

The paper starts from the recent edition of Buccio di Ranallo's "Cronica" in verse published by Carlo De Matteis to present and discuss several philological and linguistic problems posed by the complicated tradition of this text, which is one of the most significant testimonies of the ancient dialect of L'Aquila (Abruzzi) and its medieval history. After showing the serious faults of De Matteis' edition, the author proposes a linguistic study of Buccio's poem based on the most important manuscript (Parma, Biblioteca Palatina, Pal. 77) and several comments on individual passages.
